Catching Up With TyLishia Rush

For Tylishia Rush-millennial mom and foodie, there has always been an important focus on supporting black owned businesses such as The Spice Suite experiencing excellent customer service, and trying new products and food. From new skincare brands to bold, new restaurants, she is always at the forefront of exploring new things. However, with that adventurous spirit, one thing Tylishia always is cognizant of is the quality or lack thereof of the product. No matter if it's food or the latest high-end tea purchase for a self-care day.

That high standard also resonates with her role at work and also with being a fantastic mom to sons August and Alexander. During the pandemic just like so many other women she took time to experiment with new recipes, that supercharged her foodie soul, all while learning that as a mom it's okay to recharge and refocus on what matters most. Take a peek at her life in motion in our interview below. Enjoy!

1. What was it like being a new mom and what have you done differently the second time?

Being a first time mom was really overwhelming at first. I was constantly trying to follow the baby books & doctor's advice to the tee. It became exhausting! Somewhere along the line I was finally able to find my own voice & strength. I started trusting my own instincts & intuition more. I put less pressure on myself to the "perfect" mom and focused on being the best mom for my child.

When we had our second son, I felt more confident & ready. I knew what to expect during pregnancy, delivery & postpartum.

2. Tell us what was the inspiration behind both of your son's names?

After watching August Rush, I joked with my husband that maybe we should name our first child that. Shortly after, we found out we were expecting our first son. My husband brought up the movie title & we never looked back lol. Now for our youngest son, we struggled to agree on an name for him. We knew we wanted his name to start with an "A" but wasn't sure what to choose. Eventually after months of looking through baby name sites & getting suggestions from family & friends, we settled on Alexander.

3. What's the greatest thing that you have learned being a mom?

Patience. My kids have helped me become more patient and empathetic. I've learned to slow down, not rush things & enjoy the moment.

4. What's a new food or drink hack that you have learned while being in the pandemic?

I have perfected my sweet cream cold foam recipe and steak and cheese egg rolls.

5. After the pandemic if you could go anywhere on vacation, where would you go?

Maldives

6. What advice would you give to a brand new mom?

Being a parent can be overwhelming sometimes, so if someone you know & trust offers you help or a break, take it! You have to make sure you're healthy physically & mentally first and foremost. Kids can sense when things are off.

Don't forget to take sometime for yourself!

7.What's the funniest thing that has happened to you so far in 2021?

I tried to spice things up for my husband's birthday & ordered lingerie from an online boutique. I had never ordered from this store before but I really wanted to try something new. I ordered a teddy & let's just say the size was wayyyyy off. What I ordered compared to what I got was just sad. Lol

I learned a hard lesson from these "online boutiques".

8. What kinds of food/ restaurants have you been wanting to try whether in the area or in another state, etc ?

I love boba and I'm always searching for a nice bubble tea shop.

9. What kinds of self care products, etc do you want to try or have tried? Tell us about them and if you liked them or not.

I would love to try a steamer for hair & skin.

10. How has your style changed during the pandemic ( fashion, hair, etc)?

Having a baby at the beginning of the pandemic, while raising a toddler, made me lean towards a more comfortable style. I wore a lot of comfortable, loose clothes that allowed me to easily breastfeed &keep up with the kids.

11. What would you do on your perfect self care day?

My perfect self care day includes a pedicure, a short nap, iced coffee with boba & crab cake lunch

12. What fragrance do you love for summer and or which one do you want to try?

Prada Candy Parfum

13. What are your favorite store(s) for home decor items?

Target & TJ Maxx

14. What is your favorite tv show and movie whether its new or old?

The office & Jurassic Park
