Brock's 2018 collection was a study in 21st century romance. The idea that the 21st century woman still pines for ribbons, dainty wrist length gloves and Regency style Empire lines and peplums seems to be an enigma. But not to Brock designers Laura Vassar and Kris Brock( who by the way are married and I love that). The designers watched Sabrina and other films for inspiration. As Emily Farra wrote, .."We wear leggings instead of tea dresses, and exchange Instagram memes instead of love letters." Our modern society seems to have lost a sense of occasion that only a few decades ago seemed to pervade the lives of even our own family members. What is the purpose of a Regency Empire line top in velvet? What is the point of wearing delicate gloves when it seems as if they have been pushed out of site relugated only to the hands of The Queen and flight attendants. It's an aspirational desire for romance to be ever more tangible in the 21st century closet of a woman who is powerful , independent and yet true to herself as a modern romantic.
