As a brand that has been overseen by four generations of strong, creative, women Curiel is a great way to begin my sartorial journey and conversation through the New York Fashion Week collections. Raffaella Curiel used rich color, exquisite patterns and luxurious fabrics in her latest show. The collection's color pallette gradually evolved going from slightly somber to colors full of vibrancy and exquisite florals and bright solids such as the dress that is featured. So, how does this all come together? With the fever for more luxury wear in general, special occasion and evening wear collections are doing better than ever, and the emphasis on this was duly noted. Curiel's collection itself for me was partly reminiscent of women's changing fashions in the 1910's and 1920's. With the use of flowing chiffon and cuts, there is an emotional freedom in the clothes that reminded me of the world of the Grantham sisters. This look took on the spirit and soft essence of a Calla Lily, which in turn supports a theory of mine that fashion draws inspiration from the natural world.
